The Star has created a nice map
of the fire area in Ventura County.
The fire fighters did a wonderful job of stamping out the fire south of 118 this morning. This story touches on the various high points and status around the county.
The fires in Val Verde and around Piru continue to burn as separate entities with larger flare ups happening from time to time.
The main fire north of Simi continues to rage and there are now live reports coming from the Porter Ranch area (east of the Santa Susana Pass on the LA County side of the line) tracking the eastward progress of the fire storm. It is slowly but surely creeping east.
According to NBC, President Bush has now declared four California counties as major disaster areas which gives displaced residents access to federal aid.
Posted by Dave at October 27, 2003 02:04 PMI am wish all!! a safe time while fighting the fire out there. I am in Show Low Ariz. where the Rodeo-Chediski fire was last year. I do want to thank all fire teams that work to save our homes here.
I was born and raise in Los Angeles, and I loved the mountians there. Thats why I am here now, my prayers are with the fire crews that are fighting the fires.
My thoughts and best wishes for everyone in and around Simi Valley. I grew up in Simi Valley, right off Kuehner and in 1970(1?) nearly lost both my home and horse in huge fires that came so close that we lost our patio furniture and there were holes in the roof but at the last possible moment, crews in asbestos suits on earth movers came down Kuehner and turned under the field saving the entire neighborhood. The crew was amazing. I understand how you are feeling and hope for the best for all of you.

Would anyone reading this mail know if the fire got to the houses on Latham Street?
